Perhaps the "S" could stand for Speeder! As a middle aged driver now living in Kelowna with a Class 5/6 license, I have never encountered such speed and recklessness as I have on the streets in this city.
It is not only Seniors, it is New Drivers and Learner Drivers, and others who show a constant disregard for posted speed limits (young and old, and professional drivers too).
We have to be aware of the fact that Kelowna is a Tourist Destination (perhaps they should sport a "T" sign!!)and many people are driving slowly while searching out some special destination.
Being involved with the local Community Policing Program I can vouch for the fact that there are few times we do not encounter speeders and road racing while volunteering our time.
Mrs. Ferguson's death was tragic, as was the death of the 9-1-1 operator. These surviving drivers will now have to live with the fact that a motor vehicle incident took place with tragic results - it will be with them forever. Is it worth it to see who is fastest? It is a terrible price to pay for all involved.
There is nothing that would require most of the drivers to speed (i.e. drive beyond the posted limited), let alone street race, drag, etc. on city streets. If you want to do this, perhaps these people should go to Thunder Mountain and give the track a try.
