Hold Mega Project Referendum

Once again our pro-development council and planning department are hard at work for the benefit of an out of town developer with the downtown Pandosy Landing development. Is it just a coincidence or is it planned that this mega project will go to the ACP less than 10 days after it was first announced in your paper? How convenient that the meeting will be held the day after a long weekend, a tactic that has been used by this council in the past to ensure little opportunity for public input.

To consider selling off our parkland and lakeshore view corridors is unthinkable to the average citizen, but to this pro-development council it is all in a days work!

Major projects are being approved faster than the public can keep up with them all in the name of growth for growth must be “King”.

Now the ultimate project four towers from 16 to 28 storeys right on the lake, destroying our view corridors from the City, destroying a wonderful park, putting the City of Kelowna in the shade for most of the day from the shadows that these big city skyscrapers will cast.

We must stop this madness!!! This project would be considered massive in any major City. It is way to large for Kelowna.

Several recent public hearings have gone to the wee hours of the morning as citizens of Kelowna fight to try and get council to understand what the public want in terms of growth for our beautiful and unique City. For the most part these concerns have fallen on deaf ears as one major project after another are passed with no regard for the citizens or the OCP.
We lack a balance on council and as a result development projects pass with ease.

This project if passed will change our city FOREVER with that in mind and the lack of balance on council I suggest that the approval/decline of this project needs to go before the general public by way of a referendum.
Let the citizens of Kelowna decide what kind of a city they want for the future!
