What happened to my city?

I am at a loss for words now about how this once beautiful city, that we were so proud of, is now a thing of the past.

When we moved to Kelowna, it was an affordable, beautiful place all our family and friends envied and couldn't wait to come and visit. We lived in different areas of Kelowna until we finally had to move to the outskirts of town because of high prices that continue to go up, along with the crime, homelessness, drug addiction that is forced in everyone's face.

Everyone is paying more to watch their property being destroyed, vandalized, and stolen from. We had enough.

Police tell us they can't do anything unless they are caught in the act. The criminals and drug addicts know the ins and outs and what words to use in court.

Poor Rutland was a nice, hard-working community – now it's like being on East Hastings in Vancouver.

All the facilities are enabling them and just bringing more in.

They made their choices. Yes, some have mental health issues, and there are not nearly close to enough resources for that.

Taxpayers' money is going to these wet/dry facilities and to all the bike lanes – if anyone has a bike left because ours have been stolen.

I drive my son to school (since we had to move out of town), and a day doesn't go by that I haven't witnessed a drug deal or somebody shooting up, bikes being dismantled and cut from locks.

And this is all happening in front of our children.

Homeless are sleeping right in the school yards with their shopping cart, swearing at everyone who passes them.

The upcoming young adults, youth and children see this on a daily basis and are becoming so numb to it and won't even recognize the wrong in it.

I could tell you all some stories of what most of Rutland sees and I don't think you would even believe me. It is embarrassing, disgusting, shameful and so sad for our children.

I hate to say it, but Kelowna will one day be only for the rich/wealthy and homeless, drug addicted criminals. There won't be any middle class left.
