Hands off my guns

I read that Trudeau plans to ban assault rifles, which are a restricted weapon.  

It appears as just another weak attempt at moving our focus from his latest fiasco. When it is the criminal element who are using these types of weapons in gang warfare, why are the honest, law-abiding people faced with losing their rights? 

It seems if the firearm looks “mean” it is more deadly than one that is, say, pink. This is far from the truth, as I am sure any rational person can determine. 

In order to get my restricted weapon permit, I had to attend a firearms course and go through a thorough background check along with calls to family members and work associates. Along with this, the RCMP run my name every day to check if I have committed any crime and are able to show up at my door at any time and ask to see if the firearms are stored correctly.

What is the difference between an assault rifle that legally holds a maximum of five rounds, although can be modified to take more, and a GSG 16 semi auto rifle, which a standard PAL holder can acquire?  

I understand the aforementioned rifle is a .22 calibre, but if you are an avid sportsman you will know that a .22 round can kill just the same as a .223, although perhaps, you would need to be a “better” shot.  In addition, the aforementioned rifle comes with a 22-round magazine.

Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer says Canada already has strong firearms regulations and no other law is required. He also notes guns will continue to make their way to Canada from the United States whether there’s a ban or not.

Simply said, banning assault rifles and handguns will have little to no effect on the guns that are used in gang warfare and other criminal activities.
