Who's the idiot responsible?

We recently said goodbye to visitors from Europe after a very enjoyable stay with us.

Their first visit to British Columbia and Kelowna was a success. We made sure they enjoyed our town, which I have lived in for 30 years.

Whilst here, they enjoyed a stroll downtown on Bernard, we made sure they saw Waterfront Park, City Park, Kasagui Gardens, walks on Knox Mountain and the view from the lookout.

Overall, they were very impressed with Kelowna and our amazing scenery.

I was full of praise myself and had to admit how beautiful our parks department keeps the flower beds and hanging baskets. I suppose we take all that for granted every summer.

Eventually, I asked if there anything they didn't like about Kelowna. Finally, they said: "What idiots designed this city with so many traffic lights? All we seem to keep doing is stopping and starting."

I told them that for years we have elected politicians, mayors and councillors that have no idea of how to get traffic around this city, no desire to get a bypass built and basically fools who are too in bed with big business. They get themselves elected on empty promises then just become sheep at City Hall.

Oh, they said. Not somewhere they would want to live, then.
