Make the developers pay

Re: $7,000 parks fee in Kelowna

I believe developers should pay a fee that covers the cost of all infrastructure needed due to their developments being built.

If extra traffic lights are needed downtown due to extra traffic, then the developers should pay.

If an existing road needs to be widened because of a development on the edge of town, then the developers should pay.

If City Park needs more facilities due to city growth, the developers should pay.

If they can’t afford to build, so be it.

Based on housing prices and wages in Kelowna, I cannot believe the money is not there for that.

My property taxes went up 20% last year, which shows that if the developers don’t pay, then I have to.

Council needs to make the city a good place to live. Parks, recreational facilities, sewer treatment facilities, reasonable traffic and so much more should be put in place properly and not cut back on because a few people want more so they can make more.

When 20-plus storey buildings are sold out before the building barely starts, it should be evident that an average 1.1 per cent increase in price is not going to cause a crash.
