It was a pleasure to read Samantha Batten's letter.
She is correct in her statement that Rutland is the forgotten child when it comes to any type of government spending on improvements.
However, the city is more than happy to place wet facilities, dry facilities, rehabs and such without the least concern.
How many times has Abbott Street been upgraded in the last 20 years? A few at least that I have seen.
Rutland doesn’t even have sidewalks in some areas, and in other areas it appears having a sidewalk on one side is the norm, but if you live in the more affluent areas, the sidewalks are upgraded regularly and would you believe on both sides of the street?
I must leave the “ghetto” that the city and those who don’t live in Rutland believe it is, to see the new sidewalks, schools, the library the new visitor centre, the list goes on and on.
Rutland needs representation, as it is sorely obvious that current city officials are not inclined to invest in Rutland’s future if it doesn’t mean adding more wet, dry or drug rehab facilities. Rutland needs to stand together and fight this ongoing injustice.
This reminds me of taxation without representation, which is tyranny.
