I read your article about the increase in power consumption during Super Bowl Sunday.
I don't know why BC Hydro feels it is their job to try and get people to use less electricity just to avoid an eight per cent increase in usage. Surely, it is their job to sell more electricity?
However, their stupidest suggestion must be this: "Lowering the thermostat. Cooking can increase a household’s temperature significantly – lower the thermostat to a recommended 18 C."
Actually if your household temperature increases from cooking, the thermostat will automatically stop your heating coming on. That is what a thermostat does.
Turning it down to 18 C will have no effect whatsoever.
It is a bit worrying when your electricity supplier doesn't understand how a thermostat works!
