After the recent snow, again you see people not clearing it off their vehicles.
In order to drive in snow, you require traction. When you leave snow on your car, two things happen. First, you stop and snow slides off your roof onto your windshield so you can’t see. So, you turn on your wipers and hope it clears. The other scenario is it flies off the back of the vehicle.
The snow that falls from your vehicle makes intersections slippery. This prevents people from getting traction, either stopping or starting.
I’m not sure if you are stupid or lazy. We all have friends and family we like to be with. Start thinking about them and clean the snow off your vehicle so more people arrive home safely.
It may even save you money by not having an accident. If enough people do this, the accident rates drop and ICBC won’t have justification to keep raising rates.
The B.C. Motor Vehicle Act defines careless driving as operating a motor vehicle without exercising attention and consideration for road conditions and other drivers. Penalties range from $100 to $2,000 to licence suspensions and even jail time, depending on the situation.
