I realize the homeless and/or addicts are in need of help in our city.
I am an open-minded person, not prejudiced against anyone.
But, the used needle problem must be dealt with. If street users are to be shown respect and compassion, I expect them to respect our shared surroundings.
I am a father of two young children, and I received an email from their school, advising parents that used syringes have been found on the school playground. I am furious.
If you want to take your life in your hands, and use street drugs, that is your poor choice, but do not leave your dirty needles where they could infect an innocent child.
It is not the school’s issue, it is the drug users' lack of respect for our community.
I am appalled at the view of the letter Show a little compassion, stating: "the false belief that the biggest problem associated with illicit drug use is the inconvenience of the associated paraphernalia that may be left behind.”
This is not a small inconvenience – it is a major problem. If you want respect and compassion, clean up after yourselves, and stay out of areas where children play.
