Unshackle us from ICBC

Please stop raking me over the coals.

I’ve never used ICBC liability insurance, and I get all my other insurance services through a third party. Any time I have used insurance, for not-my-fault accidents, I have had a hell of a time dealing with ICBC, and it is only because my third party provider stepped in that I got decent results.

My insurance went up this year by a hell of a lot, as it did last year. Why? I never use it. I don’t want it. It does nothing for me. Why can’t I have a choice? I am not a slave. Stop treating me like one.

I want choice. I want private. I want an end to useless Crown corporations.

Why are you people there? Is it to represent the people or is it to steal from them? I’m leaning to the latter.

How do I opt out of all this lunacy? Do I have to move my family to another country? I’m told Canada is the greatest in the world. I used to believe that. And it probably is for the upper class and the lower class, but if you are in the middle, trying to raise a family, just pay for everything and be happy with what we give you.

I think about the services government provides, compared to other services I actually want and pay for. It’s true, if you want to really screw something up, get the government involved. If you really want to make sure something costs way more than it should or is worth, leave it to gov't. If I am unhappy with my third party insurance, I tell them, they make it better or I go somewhere else.

I want to go somewhere else for my liability insurance. Please, let me go somewhere else. Unshackle me. Please stop trying to protect me. It’s really getting old.

Jeff Frank, Kelowna
