A vote for lower taxes

Are you having a hard time finding someone with a realistic platform to vote for?

Well, here is an idea our association is putting forward to help you make an informed decision.

We are concentrating on two things that concern the citizens of Kelowna most, high taxes and making any tax-funded approvals by referendum only. This includes the undemocratic process of “assumed consent” in which we voters are saying yes to a tax increase unless we go to City Hall and vote no. Why is it not an automatic no?

Let those who want an increase vote yes. This process is very undemocratic and should be abolished. Council must live within the means they are given from our taxes.

Please keep in mind that the last four years have seen our taxes increase by 16 per cent. This has a profound effect on homeowners and renters alike, and if this keeps up we will all be on the street.

Please be wary of any big projects like a new City Hall, conference centre, firehall or light rail transit.

Gary Bonner,

Lower Rutland Residents Association, Kelowna
