Recently, my wife and I were visiting Kelowna from Golden when we happened upon an incident that I felt necessary to share with the good citizens of Kelowna.
In the downtown district, we witnessed a dog struck and killed by a car in the middle of the intersection.
The owner of the dog, a middle-aged street person, was struck with remorse and laid by its side, weeping with agony over the loss. Friends quickly congregated in order to console the grieving dog owner.
In no time, four police officers arrived at the scene and did not pressure the owner whatsoever to move the dog, rather redirected traffic until he was ready to move the body himself off the roadway.
When the officers finally departed, one went over and placed his arm over the shoulders of the grieving and sobbing dog owner to console and acknowledge his grief and despair.
It was a moment that will long remain in our memory that compassion for our fellow man is forever present. The picture, unfortunately in memory only, was worth 1,000 words.
