I had never spoken with the offices of my MLA or MP previously, but contacted both on different occasions this year.
Recently, when having problems obtaining MSP coverage, I contacted the office of my MLA, Dr. John Weisbeck and spoke with a Constituency Assistant by the name of Carla. This wonderful lady deserves bouquets as she displayed all the qualities we hope we will encounter when contacting our representatives. Her pleasant, empathetic demeanour was appreciated and through her resourcefulness, she got results promptly. We are both very thankful for her assistance!
In contrast, earlier this year, I called the office of MP, Werner Schmidt, to inquire about aspects of my husband’s inland spousal/PR application for immigration. Unfortunately, my call was handled in an impatient, condescending manner and I concluded the conversation feeling rather defeated. It wasn’t what I would call a good first impression.
Ironically, the slogan on our local MP’s election posters is “Demand Better”. If there should ever be another time that I need to contact this MP’s office, I will remember that statement.
