Why would we want to allow handguns in Canada? What logical reason could Canadians have for supporting handguns?
They are the No. 1 cause of gang/violence-related deaths.
"If everybody has their own handgun, everyone is safe" – the most illogical fallacy I've heard. Guns don't promote safety.
Most Canadians know the U.S. has a much higher rate of firearm related deaths. Everybody has access to a personal firearm, everyone is a threat.
Take a second to research countries where such weapons are banned, and you will see a significant reduction in weapon-related crimes.
The "I need a gun to protect me from others with guns" mentality is totally absurd. I'm a firm believer that not everybody needs the right to end a life with the twitch of a finger.
Yes, handguns will still exist. Harsher penalties, however, will ultimately act as a deterrant.
Imagine buying a machine that could end someone's life while also getting milk and cereal for the little'uns – that's the harsh state America is in. It's ludicrous.
If 57 per cent of poll respondents on Castanet think we should all have handguns, I've lost some faith in us.
Guns are useful for many different purposes. Harming other humans isn't one of them. Handguns are produced solely for that reason. Have you ever been held up at gunpoint?
More handguns = more violence. If you see it otherwise, you're wrong, however I'd love to hear your reasoning.
