Don't want your rules

Beaches are a big topic these days. Everyone wants their own.

We only have so many, so I guess we have to share them.

When we were young, the beach was for all of us – young, old, smoker, drinker, dog lover or just a swimmer.

The beaches here were a part of our social network. We all used them, but then we didn’t all have a million-dollar mansion with central air to hide in. We went after work ( you remember work, I assume) and on the weekends. We taught our kids to swim and our doges to fetch all at the same time, in the same water.

We had a cold beer or a sandy lemonade, whatever your choice. We taught our kids to be polite to the old farts and our dogs not to bother anyone.

We didn’t bubble wrap our kids or our friends' kids. We were a community, and beaches were a big part of that.

But, as we have about 100,000 new immigrants to Kelowna, instead of being 100,000 times more respectful, tolerant and understanding, we have gone the other way.

Go to Mexico and try to impose your idiotic rules on their beaches. How about Hawaii or Costa Rica?

Don't try to impose your crappy lifestyle rules here.

Get with the program and let everyone know how much don’t want to change Kelowna. Teach your grandkids social skills and how to get along.

Man, if you cant even share a beach, the rest of the world is out of the question.
