Werner Schmidt Anti-Gay?

Considering the election campaign over the past few weeks I am concerned as well as baffled as to why, as your poll shows, a majority of people using this website would vote for the Conservatives. I can only hope that their choice is dependant on the sequence of letters in the alphabet, and not based on fact.

Fact: When Bill C-250 (a bill changing the current hate crime legislation to include homosexuals as a minority group protected under the act) was put to a vote, Kelowna-Lake Country MP Werner Schmidt voted against the bill. If you read between the lines I believe Werner Schmidt is saying to Canada and his constituents that in his opinion homosexuals are disgraceful and reprehensible individuals and therefore deserve the hatred of others. He therefore believes that homosexuals should not be granted the protection the bill would provide.

Fact: When asked on June 22, 2004 for his opinion on the issue of homosexuality he stated that homosexuals are "different" and implied that they are a substandard or second-class group of citizens. Does that not say that his view of homosexuals is one of hatred and bigotry?

When you think of who you want to have voice your opinions in the House of Commons, take into consideration that Werner Schmidt not only makes hatred a personal value, but a political one as well.

-A.S.
