Back to peace keeping

Canada at one time was looked upon as a nation that was respected as a non threatening peace loving country. We were in demand as peace keepers. Slowly over the years we have been moving forward toward a fighting country rather than a peace keeper.

What if we returned to the peace keeper's and humanitarians of the world and moved more to disaster relief. At present we spend $18.9 billion on defense and this is to rise to $32.7 billion by 2026 all of which is for killing. Along with this is the cost of the effect it has on those individuals returning with both physical and mental problems. What have we got in the past from military spending? We presently rank 25 of 136 countries in the world, we rank 14th in military spending. The fact is that anyone of the top 10 could wipe us out with little effort, yes some would come to our aid but at what cost to us.

If we returned to the peace keeper and disaster relief country we would gain respect, we would create jobs in Canada by developing and building things like emergency shelters, water treatment units, solar energy, electrical generating unit. Military personnel would be trained in first aid, search and rescue, and all that comes with disaster relief. At present there isn’t a great demand for a rear gunner. Naval ships and aircraft (all of which could be built in Canada) could stand ready to give relief when and where needed. We would only enter a country by invitation and with no expectation of reimbursement. Military personnel would leave the military with skills useful in civilian life.

All of today’s problems have come about by countries aiding other countries or rebels of that country which in the long run have backfired. If you oppose a country or aid its aggressors the response is not going to be favourable. It takes very few to kill many in your home country but what do you think the feeling would be after a country is asked for aid because of a natural disaster. Would they think ill of us or look upon us as a friend when in need.

It has been within my life time that the word “synergism”was added to the dictionaries of the United States. If you are not familiar with it, it means I win you win, not I win you lose.
