Lining Their Pockets

I couldn't agree more with Mr. Shephard's letter regarding gas prices and our efforts and attempts at getting it at a lesser rate. I think it's a sad day when people feel the need to drive to another city just to buy gas.

Every person I have talked with on this subject is rightly upset over these ridiculous prices and the worthless excuses that have been made to try and cover them up. The worse part is rather than our media and our government spend the effort to really investigate these issues, they instead try to convince us once again that we should all be buying new more
fuel-efficient autos so we may conserve our resources!

Hmmm...sounds like yet another political ploy by the automobile manufacturers to line their pockets and steal our hard-earned money...that's right...steal! Apparently price-fixing isn't illegal when it's oil
we're talking about! The worst of it all is that when the supposed oil production does go back up, you and I will never see the prices ever drop to what they were.

The oil companies bank on us being conditioned to the higher prices and when the do drop the price a couple pennies we all jump for joy..meanwhile it is still up 10 cents from its previous low.

But I digress...what I really wanted to talk about was something we really can make an impact on... our local market. Why and how is it that just a few kilometres away (Penticton, Summer land, Kamloops, Falkland, etc.)
gas prices are down to as low as 83.9 cents/litre? And even then, it's still at least 4 cents higher that last summer. Yet locally, our fuel providers have not felt compelled to lower their prices to even match
their neighbors. Guess they can't if they're to make their next Lexus payment! Guess I should feel sorry for them for just trying to get by in these tough times!

Wake up Kelowna! It's time to make our stand...let your voice be heard!!! Maybe the local fuel providers will take notice if we start boycotting them one at a time. Not just for a day, a week, a month...but as long as it takes for them to drop their prices to those of our neighboring friends. I suggest we start with one of the largest providers...Shell. Make them
hear us and let them know we're fed up!!! Tell everyone you know to do the same and let's see what happens.

Make your stand Kelowna!

-S.H.
