Distorting the facts

Tory MP Dan Albas’s letter of May 16 “Campaign Hijinks” followed his all-too familiar pattern – take a news story, distort the facts, offer nothing constructive and then find some obscure way to slam Liberal MP Stephen Fuhr.

In this particular case, the fact is that the elections commissioner ruled against the local Green Party (not Stephen Fuhr) for taking one of its campaign signs to a Fuhr campaign rally. The commissioner noted that this
was a very minor infraction and asked the Green Party not to do this again.

Fuhr was not admonished in any way.

Why does Albas find it necessary to make unfounded and slanderous attacks on a fellow Parliamentarian? Perhaps he is jealous of Fuhr's outstanding record of service to his constituency, bringing more than $80 million in federal funding to the Okanagan in less than three years of service.

Or perhaps Albas is afraid that his own constituency will choose a Liberal in the next election (which it almost did in the last election).

Surely, we should expect Mr. Albas to base any criticisms he has of his colleagues on policy or ideological differences.
