I couldn't help feeling somewhat left out of participating in the Commuter Challenge. I feel as if I'm participating a little each day, yet don't qualify for the challenge because I'm not reducing my contribution to pollution. I understand the challenge is about what each of us can do to change our habits so there is a reduction of pollutants. But, there are those of us who make a conscious decision to drive a more environmentally friendly vehicle which has a larger net affect on pollution than just reducing for a short period of time.
I'm not trying to say I'm an environmental saint, but for all of my driving life I've driven a small economical car. From what I read of the Commuter Challenge, owning and using a small car doesn't qualify me for participation in the challenge. I could own a behemoth of a truck and take a bus or ride a bike for one day to participate yet pollute much more over the course of the year. I realize we can't all make these choices, but I'm sure more of us could and should.
