Local vet giving back

Only a short time after the sad passing of well loved local Veterinarian, Dr. Barbara Coughlin, her protege Dr. Ellen Nicklassen can be found giving back to her community. As a client of the late Dr. Coughlin and now a client of Dr. Nicklassen I'm always amazed at the selflessness and generosity the Kelowna Veterinary Hospital exhibits. This weekend Dr. Nicklassen went above and beyond her call of duty and gave back her time and resources to the community.

On Saturday, some children approached me asking if I knew what to do with a duck that had a broken leg. To be honest, no I didn't, but I recalled that Kelowna Veterinary Hospital used to take local wildlife in need of care. Without a second thought, Dr. Nicklassen stayed late into Saturday afternoon to assess the duck and treat her. Fast forward to Sunday, I find a terribly scared and vocal Pomeranian mix in a local park without his parents and with no tags on. I post his picture on social media and get a message from Dr. Nicklassen to bring him on down to the clinic and she'll scan him for a microchip no charge, on Sunday! I am still waiting to reunite the little dog with his owner but in the meantime we were able to get his chip read and Kelowna Veterinary Hospital has given him a safe cozy haven to temporarily call home.

The clinic, originally designed by Dr. Coughlin, has been undergoing a facelift and Dr. Nicklassen said she's excited to continue providing the same individualized, exemplary care that Barbara took so much pride in giving but with a fresh look! Thank you Dr. Nicklassen for taking the time to give back to our community in so many ways!
