I spent 34 years in the military and was never trained beyond how to use a fire extinguisher and connect a hose to the hydrant. This job of fighting fires is for professionally trained personnel of which the military, when I served, were not.
I ask you how you would like to shoulder a rifle, 60 lbs of gear and confront the enemy? I would not want you in my section as you would be a hindrance to all of us, as we more than likely would be to the front line fire fighters, the people who know what they are doing and don't need to take time out to train others when they have a very serious job to do.
You have to stop and think before you question where your tax dollars are going and don’t forget, the military are taxed too along with deductions.
