An open letter to West Kelowna’s Mayor and Council:
I have been a resident of West Kelowna for over 25 years and have always felt that it’s important to keep apprised of the changes within my community. Housing, affordable housing in particular, has been and continues to be a very significant issue within our community. Given the unbelievable growth of West Kelowna over the last decade, it was with incredulous disbelief that I read an article in Okanagan Edge which summarized the regular meeting of West Kelowna City Council on February 28th. The article is entitled “Wildly Unpopular? Too Bad” and highlighted the petty, and in my opinion uninformed, comments of several councillors whose apparent main focus was an artistic rendering of Highstreet Ventures’ proposed Carrington Ridge apartment complex on Majoros Road
This project will provide much needed housing in our city. I have done some research on Highstreet Ventures and have found this company to be highly reputable with a very commendable record of constructing quality buildings in both BC and Alberta. The fact that some counsellors have viewed this project so superficially is quite mind-boggling and extremely disappointing. Council should be setting the proper tone for future developments in our city with the building of a community that is progressive. The Carrington Ridge project is just what West Kelowna needs.
I strongly urge West Kelowna’s Mayor and Council to review the Carrington Ridge complex proposal again.
