Coyotes are no threat to us

Re: Aggressive coyotes sighted

I was reading your letter about the "aggressive" coyotes with a little amusement, but mostly the urge to educate you about wildlife. Coyotes are a wild animal, which will protect it's young at any cost. This being said, if your dogs got too close to a coyote den with pups (this time of year pups are everywhere and mother's are teaching them to hunt) the mother will in fact defend any intruders.

This is typical wild animal behaviour and the coyote did nothing wrong. There is no need to contact a conservation officer to report a wild animal being acting like a wild animal. You are in their home and habitat disturbing them, not the other way around.

I understand that you were concerned for the well being of your dogs, but you must look at the big picture and be subjective. Coyotes most likely won't tell the difference between your dogs and other rival coyotes, it was only doing what thousands of years of evolution have told it to do, protect its home and its young.

Coyotes are no threat to us, and unless your dogs threaten them pose no danger.
