Biology lesson needed

I always find it interesting how people on the left often accuse those on the right of being "anti-science," and then a letter like the one written by Yvonne Callihan opposing the pro-life position appears.

Sounds like Ms. Callihan could use a quick refresher Biology 101 course, so here it is. In order for something to be considered alive, it must posses the inherent capacities to reproduce, move, metabolise energy, and react to stimuli in their environment. Despite Ms. Callihan's claim to the contrary, the human fetus meets all these scientific criteria and is therefore, undeniably alive.

Add to that the fact that both the pre-born child's parents are human, and you can not deny that what you have is a living human, otherwise known as a "human being." The last time I checked, there is no difference between a human being and a "person" and all persons, by virtue of their inherent dignity, possess a natural right to life.

It's time our society recognizes this and the tragic error we've made in denying the pre-born their right to life the past 46 years.
