Re: Why not the Bluff?

Just wanted to write a quick response to the letter posted under the aforementioned title, asking why the Bluff lands are not used for uses such as the new Tourism Centre etc. It also makes mention of the unsightly billboards as well. It should be pointed out, that these lands are not operated by the City of West Kelowna, therefore that is why they are not being looked at. The land is Westbank First Nation land.

This is also the reason that the billboards appear along the highway there, and not anywhere else in Kelowna or West Kelowna. Neither city approves such use, however WFN does as a revenue stream which is why they are there. It is also why billboards appear in Lake County, on first nations land there, and nowhere else.

The spot of course makes sense to use for the reasons that were mentioned, however the City would never invest that kind of money into a site that they would not own the land, and if there is a safety issue with the LED billboard, it would need to be taken up with WFN.
