With regards to the concerns expressed by Mr. Heddle regarding the care his grandmother received while in the Emergency Department of KGH.
I understand the frustration of this individual. This past weekend was extremely busy for both emergency and hospital staff resulting in longer wait times. The staff at KGH, from the clerical to the medical, are caring individuals: they get just as frustrated by the process as the patients.
Having brought patients to this Emergency department for 10 years, I do not know any individual who goes to work to deliver poor patient care. The focus should be on increasing the capacity and efficiencies of health care facilities rather than maligning the individuals who are dedicated to delivering, on every shift they work, the best patient care possible given that on many days the system is over capacity.
