Bed shortage at KGH

Unfortunately, it is the medical staff at Kelowna General Hospital that have to bear the abuse and challenge that the overcrowding causes, when the blame and demands should be squarely placed where it belongs. On the plates of our greedy, short sighted, politicians and the big, not as important as they think, CEOs of corporations in our midst.

Perhaps the short sighted Christy Clark should look at building more hospitals. One on the Westside and another at the Kelowna university site that could become a teaching hospital in conjunction with the newly opened medical faculty.

Instead of increasing elected representatives salaries and expense allowances, put that money towards training our unemployed, home grown youth to become doctors and nurses, willing and capable of fulfilling the positions.

Interior Health also have to bear some of the blame for policies (that make no sense what so ever) put in place.

I was recently refused an in-hospital transfer from a hospital in Vancouver, where I am to be under the care of a cardiologist for the rest of my life. I was told I had to be sent to the hospital in the small community I reside in, where there is not cardiologist to treat my medically managed aortic aneurism.

Who is the nurse/doctor coordinator and the hospital administrator that was bound by a ridiculous Interior Health Policy?

Come on Terry Lake, you need to step up to the plate too. Review some of your boards unworkable policies and stop blaming nurses and doctors for policies that are being put in place by unqualified people sitting on your boards, and making recommendations for a profession they know nothing about.

Christy Clark, you can't just keep on pouring more industry and people into an area and ignore the most basic health and educational needs of the community.

Time for a change of politicians that will bring a new vision on the needs of the electorate.
