Lacking care and comfort

Back in January, my spouse and I had a baby.

She was induced on a Monday afternoon and we had a beautiful baby girl on the Wednesday, but stayed in hospital until Friday evening. I must say that labour and delivery was amazing. The nurses were fantastic as well as the obstetricians. But on the care and comfort side, it almost seemed like they wanted us to be quiet and just hurry up and have the baby.

I was not willing to leave my spouse's side, but yet the nurse told me twice I should just go home, even though my wife was dilated and could have very well had the baby any moment. I was told there were no chairs or daddy beds to sleep in, so I slept on the concrete.

When she was going through labour, they wouldn't come in and check on her for 6 to 8 hrs through the night. We were told that unless she was in pain and rings the bell, that they just wanted her to sleep. This was all while she was hooked up to oxytocin to induce labour.

And it wasn't just the night time. Even during the day once they didn't even bring a tray of food. It didn't matter because she was in severe pain and didn't eat. But that's not the point. It is care and comfort, and they sure as hell didn't make us feel comfortable.

Even after the baby was born, the only nurses that came to talk to us were the nurses we dealt with in labour and delivery. Again care and comfort we felt more like a burden. Of course having a healthy baby sure makes things better, but gets my blood boiling even sending this letter.
