Time to move on

Enough already of the Harper Conservatives perpetrating the myth that their government is better than anyone else with the management of our economy!  I challenge anyone to take a look at the dismal Conservative record and compare it to the stellar performance of the past Liberal governments.
 
From 1996 onwards under the Liberals, there were nine surpluses in a row - under the Harper government there has been six straight deficits and we are on our way to our seventh! To add to this shameful record, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, we are in deficit now and recession.  This is the first time in Canadian history Canada has been in recession without the USA!
 
Adding salt to the wound, the Harper government has demonstrated a tragic inability to create meaningful employment.  The Liberal record runs circles around the Conservatives with their ability to create jobs that do not rely solely on natural resources.
 
The most recent Liberal governments had an average GDP growth rate that was double what it has been under Stephen Harper’s Conservatives. Sadly, the Conservative growth rate has in fact been the lowest rate of growth by ANY Canadian government since the Great Depression.
 
Finally, national debt – the Harper Conservatives supposed feather in their cap – it’s gone up by over 150 billion under this current government.  National debt went consistently down under the Liberals and they posted not a single trade deficit while in office.
 
It’s time for us to move on from Mr. Harper.  I am thankful to our local representative Mr. Cannon for his dedicated service.  It’s just too bad he’s with the wrong party.  On October 19th I sincerely hope people will be supporting Stephen Fuhr or their local Liberal candidate. It’s time for a government that will be serious about the economic future of our country and will do so in a sustainable, collaborative, productive way that will benefit all Canadians not just a select few.
