What's a parent to do?

Is eight old enough to be home alone?

Any age to me under 13 is too young to be alone.

But then, as a single mother of four children, I can honestly say today there is no place to let children of low-income parents go and be safe till mom or both mom and dad get off work. Every thing costs too much.

My kids had to come home and stay inside, not answering phone or doors. Then, when I got home, they could go play out side.

My ex sure wouldn't help me, even with children in sports.

Tell me what else can we do as single parents or low-income parents to keep our kids safe?

I'm glad my children would stay put in my home and knew numbers to call if they needed any thing at all.

At eight, a child can be smart enough to wait alone if mom has no choice. Maybe she could ask a neighbour to watch in on the said child till she gets home.
