Stay home on election day

Unquestioning Conservative/Harper voters will not change their thinking.

Recent Canadian polls reaffirm this, showing 71 per cent of Conservative voters would never vote other than Conservative.

Liberal, NDP, Green party voters showed between 29 and 34 per cent to be hard-core party members. These likewise, would not change their vote, regardless of leadership dissatisfaction or the ailments of Canada.

These are the voters who find it difficult to embrace change. They are not open to new ideas or policies. These are the fundamentalists that do not embrace independent thought. They let their party or their leader, or the policies do their thinking.

Harper knows and likes this fact. He has a solid 70 per cent of his Conservative base that will vote blindly and faithfully, regardless of failed policy, or failed leadership. Nothing will change the voting pattern of this group.

For the sake of Canada, for the sake of democracy, for the sake of Canadian people, I ask this party faithful of 70 per cent to rescue Canada, without changing their vote. How? As a protest against Harper, who is destroying the Canada we knew, stay home on election day.

I was born in B.C. 70 years ago. I moved to Kelowna in 1972.

Never have I witnessed such an imposition of one man’s judgments and personal agenda on a nation. Never have I seen such an abuse of democracy in this once-proud Canada.

D. Cooper, Kelowna
