Mall not a 'Park and Go'

Scanning license plates to monitor parked cars is not new. The mall owners are well with in their rights to employ this technology as long as they  abide with the Province’s Privacy act for the storage and destruction of the licences plates information. I was recently in Alberta, the Calgary Zoo uses this technology to make sure the vehicles that are parked there belong there and have paid their dues.

The mall provides parking for people who are shopping at the mall, not for anyone to park their vehicle and go someplace else.  There are notices all around the parking lot stating that the parking lot is for customers of the mall only. These signs went up before I moved to Kelowna, more than twenty years ago. I have seen this policy in other parking lots for more than forty  years now. The parking lot is not for anyone to use as a “Park and Go” lot, it is for customers of the mall while they are at the mall.

In the past few years there have been times that parking at the mall is difficult, if not impossible. So if there are people using the lot for “Park and Go”, then I for one will be happy to see these people get towed for using the mall parking stalls. Park you vehicle at your friends place, then head on to Big White. Better yet, start a drive to get bus service to Big White.
