I own a house in Kelowna, my husband & I run our own small business in
Kelowna, we both do charity work, have no criminal records but when it comes to electing my local council I am a nothing.
Just because I am not a citizen I cannot vote on the 19th of November. I have permanent residence status and have to pay all my taxes like everyone else.
In many countries around the world you do not need to be a Citizen to vote for your local council, being a permanent resident and paying all your taxes is enough.
Could someone please explain to me why I need to be a Canadian Citizen to
vote for my mayor and council?
S.J.
