Discrepancies at the pump

I take issue with ex Lberal MP Dan McTeague on the gas price phenomena. Albeit the Canadian dollar plays a huge role in the national price of petrol, and the lag time also to some extent in local areas. Discrepancies at the pump cannot be blamed on transportation.

Courtenay BC on Vancouver Island at the time of this writing is paying $109.9. -Kamloops BC is paying $107.9- Kelowna BC is paying $119.9. Logically speaking, is Courtenay larger than Kelowna? The answer is no! And as such less petrol is used in Courtenay than Kelowna. Which should mean that Kelowna gas station reserves are replaced more frequently than smaller communities. This would be true in cities of like size in the area such as, let’s say, Kamloops. So lag time should not be a factor in Kelowna as much as Courtenay BC. Is it cheaper for barges to supply Vancouver Island than a tanker truck from Burnaby to Kelowna? No again. If it was true then Victoria would not be paying $114.9. They would be paying the same as or less than Courtenay.

As consumers, we will never learn the truth about gas price discrepancies. Conservative MP Tony Clement in 2011 wanted to haul the oil industry onto the carpet to give more transparency on gas prices. He got nowhere. How much further will we as voters and tax payers get?
