It's not about childcare!
As a parent concerned about the consistency of education for my children, I am surprised to hear what I hear from parents... at least in the media.
Childcare for my children during a teachers' strike is NOT my prime concern. And I'm not alone. Parents need to find childcare for their children during a host of non-school days during the year. We find (and pay for) childcare during PD days, Christmas break, Spring break, Easter, all summer, not to mention when our children are ill. Finding childcare for a few days of a teacher's dispute is not going to be a problem for most parents.
Wake up media! Parents have a voice and the teachers' strike is not just about how it upsets our home life and child care plans. Let's find out what parents are really thinking about the issues. After reading and watching almost every news story about the strike, I still don't know where most parents stand.
We want to see our children have quality education, not just regular care that's convenient for us. Find out what we actually think.
