It's Not Just About Wages

Kimberley Stayner wrote in to state she supports the teachers and feels that she is one of the few who do. Well I have a daughter in grade 12 this year at Rutland Senior Secondary. I strongly support the teachers.

It seems that the public takes the view that its all about wages. Just like the nurses who went out on strike shortly thereafter the Liberals were voted in the first time. It's not just about their wages people, they all work their butts off. Then the government just steps in when the teachers complain about things that most people don't see and legislates the group to go back to work.

The province has the power to bring down the heavy hammer and tell the public that they will not stand for any group, union or not to use their rights that cause serious implications. What about the students needs? Will my daughter just be one of the statistics that goes unnoticed by the government? My daughters teachers not only work hard but sincerely care about her future.

Has the ordinary taxpayer ever walked into a public school office and seen the hundreds of photos of students the teachers have taught, counseled and mentored? Have they ever seen or just turned a blind eye to see the lengths they will go to stop bullying, crime and drugs filtering through?

I'm not a union worker nor have I ever been. But it seems to me when these contracts are put in place they are legal and binding. What right does our province have to just rip it up? We all sit in coffee shops and complain about the misuse of powers that our governments have. It takes a union or very large group of citizens to stand up and stay NO.

Hello... the classrooms are in some cases so packed with students that the teacher only has time to lecture. Mechanics classes are unsafe because there are too many students. Yet the government tells the public that they have to shut schools down because less and less students are enrolling! These statistics are false! Our government is not filtering through to the public true and accurate figures.
