In regard to a recent letter complaining about the naming of the new bridge going across Okanagan Lake.
I predate the existing bridge and still remember leisurely ferry rides after a long, dusty, exhausting wait for passage.
When the existing bridge was first opened Princess Margaret came and dedicated it. It was known as the “Princess Margaret Bridge”. I don’t know when or why the name was changed.
As to the new bridge being named for former Premier Bill Bennett. Seems like a good idea to me. Though I disagreed with the former premier’s politics, he held the position for years and weathered many a storm. He helped shape the existing province. It seems fitting to me the new bridge should be named after an illustrious and honoured home town boy.
