I had to laugh when I read the recent "Clarification" letter from S.B., a TWU member. This member states that their "ultimate goal is to provide you, the customer, with the best service possible."
What a load of crap!
Let's tell it like it really is. TWU members are just like everyone else. All that really matters is one's own paycheque. To suggest that they give a damn about anything or anyone else is laughable. Customer service from TELUS is virtually non-existent!
Being self-employed, I travel all over BC for work. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have seen a fleet of TELUS vehicles parked at a Tim Horton's for far longer than what might be considered a coffee break. How do I get a job where I can sit in Tim's drinking coffee all day. I'm not saying that they shouldn't get a coffee break but 40 or 50 minutes seems a bit excessive. Think of how much customer service could be provided if the employees took a more reasonable coffee break.
The previous letter writer comments about "first day sickness pay" and "job security". Try working for yourself. No pension, no sick pay or other benefits and no such thing as job security. I'm certainly not losing any sleep over the plight of a TWU member, especially when I get my phone bill every month.
I guess the bottom line is why should I be concerned about a TWU member. I have my own problems, as does everyone else. My only concern is making enough every month to pay my bills. I'm sure that's the only real concern of a TWU member as well. I wonder if the TWU member realizes that his union executives are only concerned about collecting their own paycheques each month from the union dues of the membership. I think the TWU member is in for a shock if he really thinks his union cares about its members. Telus is facing increasing competition for all of their products. Telus must change in order to survive. That's life! Too bad that the union mentality is stuck in the past century.
