Women's Shelter thrift store needs help

Help needed now!

The Women's Shelter Thrift Store needs your help.

Any profits we make help run the Shelter. As well, the Shelter clients can help themselves to anything they need (without cost) to assist them to set up in a new accommodation after they leave the House.

We also make a point of helping the poor, homeless and needy by offering free items daily.

Last month we were told that we had to be out of shop by the end of October. The building had been sold and we no longer have a home.

It has been a stressful time for our staff (some are dependent on the shop for their livelihood) and the volunteers who work hard for a worthwhile and necessary cause.

We have finally found a possible replacement space. It is not perfect and we need to have a great deal of work done.

The space needs flooring, painting, plumbing and carpentry work. Then there is the cost of moving - one company quoted $2500.

That is a lot of money for a non-profit organization. Is there a moving company that can help us out (either offer to do it for free or at least a good discount)?

As we have to be out of our present space by the end of Oct., we know it is short notice to have anything done at the new location.

Are there any flooring companies in town that can donate some flooring or give us a good discount?

We know that Kelowna has a reputation for being a generous and “giving” town.

We will gladly recognize and thank any company or organization that help us out at this time of need.

Any help – even a donation toward the cost of our move – would be appreciated.

L. McGowan
