Happy birthday, Canada. You're looking great at 149.
Come join me at the Canada Day Festival happening all along the water. You'll probably find me at the kids zone and watermelon table.
If you are not sure where the best spot to watch fireworks is, call Kelowna Cruises and get on their Firework Cruise.
You can watch them from the middle of the lake; I don’t know of anything better than that. It starts at 8:30 p.m. and will go until 11:30 p.m. Get your tickets quickly and order yourself a Captain Mike Cocktail and dance until your heart’s content as fireworks burst above you.
One of my favourite articles is Ryan Lancaster's Scale My Life; wow is he ever good. He, too, has been picked up by Castanet to write a weekly column — on Mondays.
If you want to know how to improve your life or need ideas to become better, he is a phenomenal, local example. Check it out here.
Did you see that Hemp Crate is sponsoring the Kelowna Health Beauty and Fashion Show coming up this weekend at Rotary Centre for the Arts. Carly Mitchell has organized the True Fitness Challenge, which accompanies the 40 vendors and fitness classes that will be happening throughout the day.
Make sure you go see Clint Pratch from Flaman Fitness and his personal trainer, Bob, to win yourself a new spin bike.
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!” Remember that when you see me in drag at the upcoming Sugar Plum Ball. lol.
I have had multiple contacts with the airport this week for work and I am impressed with the developments that are going to be happening.
Did you know that their plan includes access for a 787 Dreamliner. Could you imagine long haul trips that didn’t include stops in Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto. They just announced this week that Nesters Market, Tim Hortons, a medical center and a pharmacy have already signed contracts to move into Airport Village.
Rumour has it that Costco is looking at property out there but I am going third person on that one.
That area will be an impressive development to keep your eye on. It’s also apparent John Devitt jumped in with both feet and started running.
Kelowna’s Chamber of Commerce is turning 110 and what better way to celebrate than with wine. This year’s celebration will be held at Vibrant Vines and will be showcasing the nominees for this year’s Business Excellence Awards.
I am part of that chamber board and let me tell you, they are working very hard to keep “B.C.’s Best Chamber Award” right here in Kelowna.
July also brings the start of Park Alive! Live concerts at some of Kelowna’s best outdoor venues for all of July and August.
The entertainment is family friendly and for people of all ages as the music is from all genres and styles. Melissa Sbrega has outdone herself once again, but we need when you will be performing “your shower songs” live on stage. Lol.
Click here for their full schedule. Melissa also helped organize the Park & Play for our youngsters to play while we can meet our neighbours. Or, if you’re like me, you go to other people’s neighbourhoods to play at their parks for something different.
We have met a lot of great family’s every summer by selfishly wearing our kids out at the same time. You can find the park schedule here.
If you don’t know about Diner En Blanc now, you probably missed out this year. It is happening this Thursday, July 7, and no one knows where yet.
I know both Alison Love and Christina Ferriera, the organizers, and they won’t even tell me where it is going to be. This event has out done itself year after year with close to a 1,000 people attending and everything has to be in white. Your clothes, chairs, tables and dinnerware all have to be white.
Pretty impressive to see on a great Okanagan night! If you are going to miss it you can catch another one of Alison’s great events Feast of Fields happening on Sunday Aug. 14.
I wish all of you a Happy Canada Day and remember to Make It a Great Week.
