Bomb rocks neighbourhood

RCMP Cst. Kris Clark calls it, 'a very disturbing trend.'
Clark was speaking of the detonation of a second improvised explosive device (IED) in Kelowna.
The latest occurred a month ago in front of a home in the 1300 block of Rutland Road North.
Clark says a Chevy Silverado parked in front of the home was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived on the scene shortly after midnight on Aug 30.
"The cab of the truck was completely destroyed before the Kelowna Fire Department could extinguish the blaze," says Clark.
"Neighbours in the area had heard a loud bang prior to the fire which was later determined to have been caused by the detonation of a low order explosive device with incendiary properties."
Clark says the device was placed on the front seat of the locked vehicle.
This is the second such device to be detonated in the city this year.
Back in January a low order explosive device was used to destroy a late 2000's model Ford Explorer in a parking lot in the 200 block of Lawrence Avenue.
On Aug 28, members of CFSEU-BC arrested a West Kelowna man after finding what was termed 'bomb making equipment' at a home he was moving to in Oyama.
Clark says at this point there is no information linking the August truck bombing to either of the previous incidents, however, he says it has not been totally ruled out.
He also went on to say that, while no motive has been determined, investigators do not believe the Rutland bombing to be a random act of vandalism.
Clark says the 22-year old owner of the truck is known to police although he has not been convicted of a crime.
He went on to say the man has not been cooperative with police in the investigation.
Both bombings are still under investigation.
