Kelowna embraces 3 days of culture
Sep 27, 2013 / 5:00 am
The City of Kelowna, along with local artists, cultural organizations and community groups, is set to showcase the city’s local arts and culture scene during Culture Days, today through Sunday.
Residents are invited to spend the weekend participating in more than 50 free events around town.
Culture Days kicks off on Friday and includes the Kelowna Culture Crawl.
This self-guided, evening walking tour around downtown features artists from multiple disciplines exhibiting their work at studios, galleries, retail shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
Visit heart school, located at 375 Bernard Avenue (above Starbucks on the corner of Bernard Avenue and Pandosy Street) from 6 to 10 p.m. for a list of participating businesses.
On Saturday, explore Kelowna’s cultural district with Culture Caching. This modern-day scavenger hunt uses smart phones or Global Positioning System devices to find cultural treasures.
Participants can enter to win prizes with each treasure found. Individuals and teams can register at the Arts Common between the Rotary Centre for the Arts and the Kelowna Art Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. No smart phone, no problem; just bring a pen and paper with you.
The City and the Inspired Word Café present Culture Days Jam, Saturday night from 7 to 10 p.m.
Visit the Mary Irwin Theatre in the Rotary Centre for the Arts to see artists, dancers, musicians, spoken word artists and more perform to celebrate Culture Days and our creative city.
Cap off the Culture Days weekend with A Taste of the Seasons – Culture Days Showcase at the Kelowna Community Theatre on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Get a sneak peak of the upcoming fall performances from Ballet Kelowna, Opera Kelowna, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Kelowna Society and Anna Jacyszyn.
