United Way hosting largest ever kick-off

Tickets are going fast for the United Way's 2013 campaign kick-off breakfast Tuesday, Sept 24.
The year’s kick-off promises to be the largest ever, being hosted at the Delta Grand Okanagan with room for up to 400 attendees, thanks to sponsorship from Gorman Brothers Lumber. The United Way’s Honourary Chair, Mike Roberts, will act as master of ceremonies.
“For several years, we were hosting breakfasts both in Kelowna and West Kelowna to kick-off the Central Okanagan campaign, and while we recognize our region is made of several communities, hosting multiple events was very time intensive,” explains United Way Executive Director Marla O’Brien.
“So we were so grateful that Gorman Brothers stepped up to sponsor a regional event, and are looking forward to a room full of energy to make our community strong.”
The kick-off breakfast has traditionally launched the United Way’s campaign season, and this year will highlight stories from people and organizations that have benefited from the investment made by donors throughout the region.
“Campaign time is a concentrated focus on raising funds, and sometimes the impact that is made with the contributions gets lost. We want to ensure everyone understands the difference that their participation makes, whether they give of their time, knowledge or dollars,” says O’Brien.
The United Way will also be introducing its campaign cabinet volunteers, who will act as ambassadors to spread the word of the organization’s impact and goals. The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24 and $25 tickets are available by clicking here.
