Restaurant owner assaulted

The owner of Olympia Taverna in Rutland is still recovering after being beat up while working in his restaurant.
Mike Koutsantonis says it was a normal morning, “I was at the back of the restaurant doing some prep in my kitchen, someone knocked on the back door - I told them to come on in. There was a guy there and I didn’t recognize him so I asked if I could help him and next thing I know I am flat on my back.”
That one blow to the face knocked Koutsantonis out cold. Another employee saw him get punched and she screamed sending the assailant running in the other direction.
Koutsantonis says he spent days in the hospital to repair the damage. “He had to have been wearing brass knuckles with the amount of damage he did. He broke my jaw; he crushed my cheek bone and broke the bone around my eye,” shared Koutsantonis.
RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says the do have a detailed description of the attacker and are now trying to track him down.
"He’s estimated to be in late 20’s, Caucasian about 5’9” and 190 pounds. He had short dark hair, clean shaven and had a small tattoo of cursive type writing on his neck," says Clark”.
The RCMP do not know the motivation behind the attack but Koutsantonis says the man was trying to rob him.
Koutsantonis is still recovering from the Sept. 1 incident.
“I had to have surgery and they put plates in my cheek and by the eye bone. My jaw is semi wired up right now with bolts and elastics,” says Koutsantonis.
The restaurant remains open and plans to now install security cameras behind the building.
Koutsantonis says he’s frustrated this man has so far gotten away with the unprovoked attack.
“I’m angry and a little choked because this guy just comes up and hits me for no reason. Now I can’t eat for a month and he is wandering the streets.”
