Fire Education Program

With the arrival of warm weather, many Kelowna residents are concerned about the advent of another forest fire season.

The Kelowna Fire Department has an education program in place that’s readily available to anyone living in or near a forested area.

Fire prevention personnel will conduct education sessions for neighborhood groups and resident associations interested in learning more. Meeting space can be provided at the main Firehall on Enterprise Way. Contact John Sharhon at 860-6419.

Residents wishing a private property assessment should also call the Firehall at 860-6419 to arrange a review.

Learn how to protect your property.

Simple steps include:
  • Cleaning up your yard.
  • Removing pine needles and pine cones.
  • Storing firewood and combustibles at least 10 m. away from the home.
  • Cleaning roofs and eavestroughs of branches, leaves, needles and cones.
  • Limbing trees 2.5 m. up the trunk to remove ladder fuels.
  • Bagging yard waste for the Glenmore Landfill and not pushing it over a hill or beyond a fence.
