New development for Superstore

Kelowna City Council has approved a development permit for construction of three new commercial buildings on the Superstore site in Kelowna.
The three new one-story buildings will be located on vacant land at the front end of the Superstore property along Underhill Street and Baron Road.
"Buildings one and two link the existing entrance to the site from Baron Road. Building three is on the northwest corner of the site and is intended to be occupied by a restaurant," says city planner, James Moore.
It is believed The Keg will be the restaurant going onto the site closest to the highway.
The tenants for the other two sites have not been revealed.
This is the second time developers have come before council seeking a development permit.
The original proposal was deferred by council pending improvements to the design of the buildings.
While design of the restaurant remains unchanged, Moore says design changes have been made to the other two buildings.
"Since last seen by council, staff have worked with the developer to make substantial improvements to buildings one and two, including additional glazing, building articulation and corner features," says Moore.
"A new storefront has been added to building one, new pedestrian plazas and seating opportunities along Underhill and Baron and additional landscaping in the parking area."
Councillor Luke Stack, one of the loudest opponents of the original design, applauded the changes brought before council.
"I am really, really pleased to see the significant improvements that have come forward, particularly on the corner of Underhill and Baron," says Stack.
"When I look at the proposal as it has been amended I think they have come a long way to make it way more friendly and I think it will enhance the neighbourhood significantly."
