Call to arms for Thanksgiving donations
Sep 12, 2013 / 7:33 am
It’s almost time to collect food for the third annual BC Thanksgiving Food Drive, that will take place from Sept. 9-14 around the province.
Volunteers will be out in force throughout the Okanagan to deliver bags to individual homes, with flyers asking for donations to local food banks. On Saturday, Sept. 14 they will return to pick up the donations and deliver them to food banks around the valley.
This non-profit organization currently has volunteer groups working in Oliver, Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon, Enderby and Salmon Arm.
Last year they delivered bags to over 36,000 addresses and collected 77.833 pounds of food. Those numbers were more than double what they had in the first year, and now they hope to grow by at least 50 per cent once again.
More information can by found on the organization’s website.
