Children in the Okanagan will be heading back to school very soon, but one last hurrah was in order Saturday, and hundreds of kids were on hand to enjoy the festivities.
And free backpacks didn't hurt, either.
The 10th Annual Back To School Bash took place Saturday at the Parkinson Recreation Centre in Kelowna and more than 700 children took part in the festivities.
Fresh popcorn, cotton candy, mazes, children’s activities and live entertainment were highlights of this year’s bash sponsored by Victory Life Fellowship.
The community even, free of charge,t was attended by 725 people. There were plenty of interesting statistics to report as well, including: 750 Backpacks handed out; 100 haircuts given; hundreds of articles of clothing were handed out; and 1150 hotdogs were consumed.
“Reaching people - touching lives - making a difference’ is what motivates Victory Life” said, Pastor Diana Tripke. “Everything was free at the event! Hundreds of families were helped with their ‘back to school’ budgets.”
One gentleman from Kenya was especially appreciative of the event.
‘I am blessed by all aspects of this event; it is great!’. he said.
A special ‘thank you’ to the churches, businesses and individuals that gave of their valuable time and resources to contribute to this year’s event.
Special thanks to one of the local television stations, as well as Save On Foods, both of whom contributed items to go into the backpacks.
The next event put on by VIctory Life is on Christmas day, and will also be held at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.
